The Department of Internal Medicine at Erasmus MC is dedicated to pioneering research, education, and patient care by bringing scientific advancements to clinical practice. The department consists of nine specialized sectors, including Endocrinology, Nephrology, Pharmacology-Vascular and Metabolic Diseases, Infectious Diseases, Clinical Immunology, Allergology, Geriatrics, Acute Medicine, and Nursing Sciences. It also includes a Dietetics Research Line. Each sector has a designated head overseeing clinical care and research. The department operates nine research laboratories focusing on key areas like thyroid function, calcium and bone metabolism, renal insufficiency, cardiovascular pharmacology, and more. These labs contribute to cutting-edge research that impacts clinical practice. Additionally, the department prioritizes teaching, offering an extensive array of training programs for medical professionals, including medical doctors, students, PhD candidates, and postdoctoral fellows. By continuously advancing education and research, the department fosters innovation in medicine, ensuring that future professionals are well-equipped to meet the challenges of modern healthcare.
