MenoPause Consortium

The MenoPause Consortium is dedicated to ensuring that every woman experiences the healthiest possible menopause transition while maintaining active participation in social life during and beyond this period. Recognizing that menopause is a natural phase marked by significant hormonal changes, the consortium addresses the varied physical and psychological challenges women may face. These challenges can impact well-being and labor participation, yet they often remain under-discussed. Additionally, there’s a need for greater awareness about the increased risks of conditions such as cardiovascular diseases, osteoporosis, and diabetes post-menopause, which hinders the development of effective preventive strategies.

At the heart of the MenoPause Consortium is a collaborative network of clinicians, researchers, occupational physicians, and other stakeholders. Together, they strive to identify the adverse effects of the menopause transition and develop personalized strategies to prevent them. Key questions guide their mission: Why do some women experience symptoms while others do not? How can lifestyle advice or hormone therapy prevent these symptoms? What are the long-term health risks for each individual, and how can they be mitigated? By addressing these questions, the consortium aims to empower women to continue participating fully in society throughout their menopause journey.

The MenoPause Consortium collaborates closely with Erasmus MC, a leading medical center in the Netherlands, to advance research and clinical practices related to menopause. This partnership leverages Erasmus MC’s extensive expertise in women’s health and genomics, particularly through its Department of Genomics. By integrating clinical insights with cutting-edge genomic research, the consortium aims to develop personalized strategies that address the diverse challenges women face during the menopause transition. This collaborative approach ensures that scientific discoveries are effectively translated into practical solutions, enhancing the health and well-being of women during and after menopause.
