“My hobby is playing the flute. I played in the military band of my school in Brazil for most of my childhood. After university, I have been too busy to play it regularly. But, I still enjoy playing it. I also enjoy watercolor and doing crafts, such as macramé. “

In my clinical practice, I was intrigued by the diverse clinical presentations of periodontal diseases. Thus, my first research projects aimed at understanding cellular response to inflammation and infection. Its modulation with immunomodulatory peptides. Later, I focused on 3D printed scaffolds for periodontal regeneration. Recently, I am studying the determinants of oral health by analysing data from existing cohorts (e.g. Generation R and the Rotterdam Study). I am particularly interested in the association between dental development, gum health, and overall health.
