My PhD topic is Exploring the effects of exposome factors on musculoskeletal traits. Osteoporosis is considered as a systemic multifactorial disease caused by a combination of genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors. “Exposome” was first defined by Wild as the totality of human environmental (meaning all non-genetic) exposures from conception onwards, complementing the genome.

With the development of tools and technologies, the concept of measuring more complete exposure data became challenging. The project is mainly focus on investigating the relationship between exposome (including both social and environmental exposomes) and bone health. Here are the sub-projects:
- Alcohol consumption and bone mineral density in the Rotterdam Study: a Mendelian randomization analysis
- Alcohol exposure during pregnancy and bone mineral density in childhood in the Generation R study
- Smoking cessation, BMD, and trabecular bone score (TBS) in the Rotterdam Study
- Maternal socioeconomic status and social capital and bone health in Generation R
