New Talent Joins the Team: Meet Niccolò Pellegrini

We are delighted to welcome Niccolò Pellegrini as a visiting research scientist to our team for the coming year.

Niccolò is currently pursuing his PhD in Sustainable Development: Environment, Food and Health at Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome. He is working within the Research Unit of Endocrinology and Diabetes under the supervision of Professor Nicola Napoli. His research focuses on the complex interplay between metabolism, inflammation, and bone health, with a particular interest in the molecular mechanisms linking obesity, diabetes, and skeletal fragility.

During his time with us, Niccolò will develop a project investigating the impact of lipids on bone metabolism, integrating epidemiological and pre-clinical approaches, with a special emphasis on -omics research.

He brings valuable expertise and fresh perspectives in molecular and nutritional research related to osteoporosis and other endocrinological diseases.

His recent work includes:

  • Increased bone inflammation in type 2 diabetes and obesity correlating with Wnt signaling downregulation (bioRxiv, 2024)

  • Endocannabinoid anandamide activation of pro-resolving pathways in human macrophages (FASEB J., 2024)

  • Downregulation of bone canonical Wnt signaling in T2D and its association with AGEs and bone strength (eLife, 2024)

  • Effects of simulated microgravity on immune responses in monocytes (Cells, 2024)

  • Reviews on type 1 diabetes epidemiology and the role of specialized pro-resolving mediators in neuropathic pain

We are excited to collaborate with Niccolò and look forward to the discoveries that lie ahead.

Benvenuto, Niccolò!
